Halo Mehdi..
1. Can you state your name and what you do in the band?
Hi Fugu is me - I write the songs and I'm the lead singer. My music is meant to be played by a band on stage (vocal harmonies, drums and bass), so it is also the band's name.
2. Can you state another musician in your band?
There is Jean on the drums, Jean Yves on the bass and Olivier on the guitar.
3. I love your song called "Here Today". are there any story behind that title?
The inspiration for Here Today comes from a french 60's movie called "Adieu Philippines" by Jacques Rozier, about teenagers (2 girls and a guy) going on holiday in the south of France during the summer. So it's about that youth feeling. The lyrics are about enjoying life in the present, the feeling can last a second or a lifetime
4. Yeah, it's so cool, why you choose that movie?
I just wrote the song after watching it…it was a coincidence, that's how inspiration works
5. When and Where the band did from?
Fugu is me, I started it in 1993, now there are several line ups for live, depending on who is available. They're all terrific musicians, I'm lucky !
6. Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs? Do you think these topics will change over time?
I write music and lyrics, sometimes like on "Here Today" I do collaborations. There's always an autobiographical side in my songs, so inspiration in the lyrics evolves with myself.
7. Could you briefly describe the music-making process?
The inspiration comes randomly, but usually it's other people's creation that inspire me : i.e a movie or a song.
8. What’s your ultimate direction for your band? Are you seeking fame and fortune? The main thing for me would be to be remembered as one of the best songwriters. This might come with money too.
9. Where have you performed? What are your favorite and least favorite venues? Do you have any upcoming shows?
I loved Jakarta and Bangkok recently. Now I'm working on the new album and I look forward playing it on stage next year
10. What genre of music do you consider your work to be? Who are your major influences?
Pop/rock (the music shop classification), my main influence are the Beatles : they could do Little Richard or "Yesterday"
11. Living or Dead, which three band would you like to play with?
The Beatles, the Beach Boys, the Byrds. They looked great, they were great friends and they did the best vocal harmonies. 1
2. What’s the best album of all time? Why you choose that?
Rubber Soul because it's the beginning of complexity in pop music and it's very naive at the same time, in the way the early 60's were full of optimism
13. You have been played in Indonesia, what do you think about music scene in Indonesia?
I loved the Changcutters, I wish they could come to France to show how good they are 14. I have listen to your album "As Found". What is the main topic of the album? What is your expectation for the listener? It's appreciating things as they are, even when they are bad. This is life "as is". That works for feelings but also for objects, events, urbanism…it's nostalgia for the present.
15. Who is designed your album?
it's Julian House a British graphic designer who worked on many famous record covers
16. Your album "As Found" are recorded and produced Tahiti 80, how about the relationship with them?
We know each other for 10 years now, but that's the first time we work together.
17. How about the music scene in France, are grow up so fast?
There are more interesting bands in France now, but I preferred when I felt more alone in my thing, it was more exciting. It felt like everything was possible. One of my favourite songs is the Kink's "I'm not like everybody else"
18. Any plans in 2008?
recording my 12 new songs.
19. Are you want to shows in Indonesia again?
Oh yes
20. Last word for your fans in Indonesia?
Thanks for the inspiration that you and Indonesia bring to me
